Description
OXYTETRACYCLIN-200 for injection
(solution for injection)
Description
Light to dark red-brown transparent oily liquid.
Composition
1 ml of the preparation contains the active ingredient:
oxytetracycline hydrochloride – 200 mg.
Excipients: propylene glycol, water for injections.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QJ01, antibacterial veterinary preparations for systemic use (QJ01AA06, oxytetracycline)
Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic of the tetracycline group. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of microorganisms sensitive to the preparation, thereby preventing the connection of ribosomes with aminoacyl-transport RNA, which stops protein synthesis in bacterial cells. It is also believed that oxytetracycline reversibly binds to 50S ribosomal subunits and changes the permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane of sensitive microorganisms.
Oxytetracycline is active against gram-positive (Staphylococcus spр., Streptococcus spр., Actinomyces spр., Bacillus antracis, Clostridium perfringes and tetani, Listeria monocitogenes and Nocardia) and gram-negative (Brucella spр., Haemophilus spр., Bordetella spр., Bartonella spр., Pasturella multocida, Shigella spр., Yersinia spр., Salmonella spp., E. coli) microorganisms, and also acts on protozoa (Protozoa), mycoplasma (Mycoplasma spp.), rickettsiae (Rickettsia spp.) and chlamydias (Chlamydia spp.).
When administered intramuscularly, the maximum concentration of oxytetracycline is observed after 30-60 minutes. It penetrates into almost all organs and tissues, but the highest level is observed in the lungs, liver, bile, reproductive organs and kidneys. In low concentrations, oxytetracycline is detected in the cerebrospinal fluid, but its concentration does not reach the therapeutic level. The half-life of the preparation is approximately: in cattle – 4.3 – 9.7 hours; in sheep – 3.6 hours; in pigs – 6.7 hours; in dogs – 4 – 6 hours. It is excreted from the body unchanged, mainly by glomerular filtration, and the alimentary canal is excreted with bile, inactivated by the formation of chelate compounds, and then excreted in feces.
Usage
Treatment of cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs and cats with diseases of the alimentary canal, respiratory system, genitourinary system, skin caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline.
Dosage
Cattle, calves, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, cats – intramuscularly in a dose of 1 ml of the preparation per 10 kg of body weight once a day.
The preparation is used with an interval of 24 hours, the course of treatment is 3 – 5 days.
If the dose-volume exceeds 20 ml for cattle, 10 ml for pigs and 5 ml for dogs and cats, it must be divided and injected into different areas.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to preparations of the tetracycline group.
Do not use in case of impaired liver and kidney function.
Do not use simultaneously with antibiotics with bactericidal action, such as penicillin.
Do not use the preparation during the pregnancy of animals.
Cautions
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed 21 days after the last use of the drug. Drinking milk is allowed 7 days after the last use of the preparation. Meat and milk obtained before the specified time is disposed of or fed to unproductive animals, depending on the conclusion of a veterinarian.
