Pharmacological properties
ATСvet QS02, veterinary drugs using in otology (QS02AA09, chlorhexidine).
Chlorhexidine bigluconate belongs to antiseptic agents, is a biguanide derivative.
The mechanism of bactericidal action consists in interaction with phosphate groups on the cell surface, as a result of which there is a shift in osmotic equilibrium, a violation of the integrity of the microbial cell and its death.
Chlorhexidine exhibits antimicrobial activity against many gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp., Bacillus anthracis, etc.) and gram-negative (E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.) microorganisms, yeast, dermatophytes, protozoa, some viruses. It acts mainly locally, practically not being absorbed from the surface of the skin and mucous membranes. Does not have irritating and ototoxic effects, even if the tympanic membrane is damaged.
The presence in the preparation of a complex of tris – EDTA – a chelating agent that binds Ca and Mg ions, causing an increase in the permeability of cell membranes, enhances the antimicrobial activity of chlorhexidine and provides a synergistic effect.
Usage
