Description
ELITE ZOO DOG
(spot-on preparation)
Description
Clear oily liquid, from light yellow to dark yellow in color with a specific odor of the constituent components
Composition
1 ml of the preparation contains active ingredients:
fipronil – 100 mg;
moxidectin – 25 mg;
praziquantel – 40 mg.
Excipients: propylene glycol, isopropyl alcohol.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QP53 ectoparasiticides, insecticides and repellents (QP53AX65 fipronil, combinations).
The preparation contains three active ingredients: fipronil, moxidectin and praziquantel.
Fipronil-5-amino-1 – [2,6-dichloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl] – 4 – [(trifluoromethyl)sulfinyl] – 1H-pyrazole-3-carbonitrile, a derivative of phenylpyrazole. Affects the central nervous system of ectoparasites without affecting the central nervous system of animals. The mechanism of action of fipronil in invertebrates is inhibition the passage of chlorine ions in GABA-dependent chloride channels, which disrupts the nervous system of arthropods. Due to the systemic blocking of the nervous system by fipronil, nervous overexcitation and death of ectoparasites occur.
Moxidectin is a semi-synthetic compound of the milbemycin group (macrocyclic lactones). Stimulates the release of GABA and, by binding to postsynaptic receptors, causes a violation of muscle innervation, paralysis and death of ectoparasites and nematodes.
Praziquantel is a derivative of pyrazinizoquinoline, it acts on most species of cestodes (including larval stages) and trematodes. The mechanism of action consists in depolarization of the neuromuscular ganglia, impaired glucose transport and microtubular function in cestodes, which leads to paralysis and death of parasites.
The combination of active substances provides a wide range of antiparasitic effects against fleas (Ctenocephalides spp., Pulex irritans), chewing lice (Trichodectes canis), lice (Linognathus setosus), parasitiform ticks (Ixodes spp., Dermacentor spp., Rhipicephalus spp.), sarcoptoid ticks (Otodectes cynotis), thrombidiform ticks (Demodex canis); the larval and puberscent forms of intestinal nematodes (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, Trichuris vulpis), larval forms (microdirofilaria) of nematodes Dirofilaria spp.; cestodes (Taenia spp., Dipylidum caninum, Echinococcus granulosis, Echinococcus multilocularis), trematode (Opisthorchis spp.).
After applying the preparation to the skin, fipronil quickly distribute over the surface, almost without being absorbation. It accumulates in the epidermis, adipose glands, hair follicles and, gradually released, provides a long-term contact insecticidal effect. The effect of a “reservoir” is created, which provides a long-term residual activity of fipronil.
Moxidectin and praziquantel are well absorbed from the surface of the skin and enter the systemic circulation, organs. and tissues, reaching a maximum concentration in the blood plasma on 3-4 days after treatment. Excreted from the body mainly in unchanged form (moxidectin) and in the form of metabolites (praziquantel) with feces and urine.
Usage
Treatment and prevention of dogs with siphonapterosis, trichodectosis, linognathosis, ixodidosis, otodectosis, notoedrosis, demodecosis;
Treatment and prevention of dogs with nematodes: toxocarose, toxascarose, hookworm infestations, uncinariosis, trichurosis, prevention of larval forms of microdirofilariae Dirofilaria spp.; cestodoses: dipylidiosis, teniidosis, echinococcosis; trematodoses: opisthorchiasis; mixtinvasias: dipylidiosis-siphonapterous, toxascarose-teniidosis, hookworm-echinococcosis, etc.
Dosage
The preparation is applied externally to the dry, undamaged skin of the animal using an ampoule-dropper in places inaccessible to licking (on the withers and along the spine), in doses of:
Dogs: 1-5 kg body weight – 0.5 ml of the preparation;
5-10 kg body weight – 1 ml of the preparation;
10-20 kg body weight – 2 ml of the preparation;
20-30 kg body weight – 3 ml of the preparation;
30-40 kg body weight – 4 ml of the preparation;
40-60 kg body weight– 6 ml of the preparation.
For more accurate dosing, apply the drug at the rate of 0.1 ml per 1 kg of body weight or use a combination of ampoules-droppers of different volumes. When processing large animals, the drug is applied in several places along the spine, from the withers to the tail.
For the destruction of fleas, lice, chewing lice, ixod ticks, the preparation is used once. The protective effect lasts for 4-6 weeks. To prevent re-invasion, the drug is recommended to be used once a month during the entire season of parasite activity.
For the treatment of otodectosis, 2-3 drops of the preparation are applied to the skin of the auricle (both ears are necessarily treated). Before using the preparation, the auditory canal is cleaned of exudate and scabs. The remainder of the drug from the pipette used (based on the body weight of the animal) is applied to the skin between the shoulder blades. The treatment is carried out 2-3 times with an interval of 7-10 days. In cases of complications of otodectosis with otitis, appropriate treatment with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agents is used.
For deworming of animals, the drug is used once, if necessary, after 14 days, the treatment can be repeated. For preventive purposes, the drug is used once a month.
For the prevention of dirofilariasis, the drug is used once a month during the entire season of activity of mosquitoes-carriers of dirofilariasis pathogens, starting a month before and ending a month after the insect summer season. The preparation kills microdrofilariae and prevents them from turning into pubescent form of nematodes. Since the drug does not work on adult dirofilariae, its use is absolutely safe for invasive animals. When importing animals to regions with dirofilariasis, it is recommended to use the drug a month before import. If the animal has previously received other drugs for the prevention of dirofilariasis, the interval between their last use and the treatment of the animal with the preparation should be at least a month.
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the preparation.
Do not use the preparation on sick, emaciated, and old animals.
Do not use the preparation on puppies less than 10 weeks of age and weighing less than 1 kg.
Do not use the drug on animals during pregnancy and lactation.
In the treatment of otodectosis, do not inject the drug directly into the ear canal.
Do not apply the product to wet or damaged skin of the animal.
Do not use the drug simultaneously with other insecticides.
Cautions
In some cases, animals may have individual skin reactions (redness, itching), which pass within 2-3 days and do not require the use of medicines.
If an allergic reaction is detected in an animal that is sensitive to the components of the drug, the drug should be thoroughly washed off with soap and plenty of flowing water, and if necessary, symptomatic treatment should be carried out.
With an accidental overdose of the drug, some animals may experience a depressed state, increased salivation, muscle tremors, and vomiting. In this case, the drug should be thoroughly washed off with soap and plenty of flowing water, if necessary, to conduct symptomatic treatment.
Some dogs are more sensitive to macrocyclic lactones due to a mutation of the MDR1 gene. Although such animals tolerate moxidectin better than ivermectin, it is recommended to treat dogs of Collie, Australian Shepherd or similar breeds under the supervision of a veterinarian.
Do not pet animals or allow them to reach small children for 24 hours.
Do not bathe animals after treatment for 48 hours.
When processing follow the basic rules of hygiene and safety adopted when working with veterinary drugs.
The treatment of animals should be carried out in rubber gloves. Do not smoke, drink, or eat while processing. At the end of the work, wash your hands with warm water and soap.
In case of accidental contact of the preparation on the skin or mucous membranes, it should be immediately washed off with flowing water.
